5.4-magnitude earthquake struck North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on Saturday, causing injuries to around 50 people and damage to more than 5,000 homes. Hundreds of local people are still homeless on Sunday.

'€œA half of the disaster relief has been distributed to the victims since Saturday evening,'€ Bachruddin of the NTB administration told The Jakarta Post on Sunday.

The quake hit around 1:42 p.m. local time on Saturday with the epicenter 14 kilometers northwest of West Lombok.

The earthquake damaged 5,370 houses in 10 villages across three districts: Gangga, Pemenang and Tanjung. Seventeen mosques, 19 mushola (small mosques), one kindergarten and four elementary schools were also affected. Around 50 aid workers have gone to affected locations.

The most affected is Medana village in Pemenang district, North Lombok. In Gol, a small village in Medana, more than 300 houses were completely destroyed or severely damaged.

'€œMost of locals in the three affected districts are still in temporary shelters and berugak (wooden couch or sleeping platform) as they are worried about aftershocks,'€ said Bachruddin. (ebf)
