hree officers of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) werearrested in Garut regency, West Java, on Sunday for allegedly assisting 106asylum seekers from Myanmar pass through Indonesia en route to Australia.
The arrest occurred when local police stopped a tourist bus and a minibus following it. The 106 asylum seekers, who were Rohingya refugees, were allegedly on their way to a boat that would take them to Australia through the southern coastal area of Garut.
'[The officers] are now being held at the Marine base in Bandung,' said chief of the Military Command Detachment III/2 Lt. Col. Suparno, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Suparno declined to reveal the identities of the three naval officers.
Meanwhile, the 106 Rohingya refugees had been transferred to the immigration office in Tasikmalaya after being questioned at the Cibalong police station.
