henumber of fatalities from Mount Sinabung's pyroclastic cloud has increased to17 with Sehat Sembiring, 47 recorded as having passed away after being treatedfor almost two weeks.

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) confirmed that the families of all the dead victims would receive compensation from the government; Rp 5.5 million (US$452) from the Social Affairs Ministry,  Rp 3.5 million from the North Sumatra governor and Rp 2.5 million from the Karo regent.

'The compensation will be officially handed over on Thursday at the command post,' he said. (dic)
