he world-renowned heritage sitesBorobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko temples have fully reopened their gates to thepublic as the clean-up has been completed. The clean-up was organized toremove volcanic ash deposited from the eruption of Mount Kelud in East Java twoweeks ago.
'Now people may visit the entirety of the temple sites,' director of PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Laily Prihatiningtyas, told kompas.com on Wednesday.
Previously, the temples had been reopened to the public but they were only allowed to visit the park areas and not the temples themselves as the clean-up was still underway.
She acknowledged that the clean-up was completed quicker than expected, even faster than when they cleaned up the temples due to Mount Merapi's eruption a few years ago.
'This is an achievement,' he said.
She said that with the full reopening everything was back to normal, including ticket prices. Daily tickets are available at Rp 30,000 (US$ 2.50) for local visitors, Rp 12,500 for students and children and $20 for foreign tourists. (put/dic)
