he Indonesian Military (TNI) will launch a full-scaleevaluation of the military's ammunition depots following the recent explosionat the Navy's ammunition depot in Pondok Dayung, Tanjung Priok, which killedone person and injured 87 others.

'We need to launch the evaluation [to enable] improvements in the future. The evaluation is not just for the existing depots, but also old and full depots,' TNI commander Gen. Moeldoko said at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday.

The Navy, with the assistance of the National Police's forensics laboratory, is running an investigation into the cause of the explosion. The Navy's preliminary investigation found that a short circuit was the possible cause of the initial blast.

In the wake of the explosion, the House of Representatives Commission I overseeing defense will summon the Indonesian Navy's chief of staff Adm. Marsetio to discuss management and security at ammunition depots.

'Commission I will discuss the budget for recovery and rebuilding. We will talk with the Navy chief of staff to ensure that, in the future, the depots will be managed better. We are also concerned about the management of depots belonging to other forces within the TNI,' Hanura Party lawmaker Susanintyas Kertopati said on Friday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
