he management of the Mutiara SIS Aljufri Palu Airport in Central Sulawesi plan to lengthen the runway from the current 2,250 meters to 2,360 meters by 2015.
Head of the Muiara SIS Aljufri Palu Airport, Benyamin Apituley, told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday that the extension would allow for the airport to accommodate more large aircraft such as the Boeing 747.
'Today, the airport can already accommodate large aircraft, but not many,' said Benyamin.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to inaugurate the Mutiara SIS Aljufri Palu Airport's new terminal, along with other airports on Thursday.
Previously, the airport was known only as the Mutiara Airport. The Palu administration later decided to add the name of Central Sulawesi ulema and education expert Saiyid Idrus bin Salim Aljufri, who is also a national hero.
The Transportation Ministry approved the change earlier this year.
