The movie opens with a typical day in Peter Parker aka Spider-Man'€™s (Andrew Garfield) life: A chase between cops and a bad guy, who is trying to steal a truck containing plutonium, during Parker'€™s high school graduation ceremony.

Luckily, the superhero makes it just in time to receive his diploma and kiss his brainy and beautiful girlfriend Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone).

However, something is weighing heavy on his mind.

Although Parker does not doubt his love for Stacey, he isn'€™t certain if he can continue the relationship. Parker realizes that his life as Spider-Man is too dangerous, which could put Stacey in harm'€™s way.

One evening when Parker should have gone for dinner with Stacey and her family, to celebrate their graduation, the two decide to go their separate ways.

Stacey feels that Parker is just too scared to carry on with their relationship.

Separately, Max Dillon (Jamie Foxx), a lonely electrician employed by Norman Osborn'€™s (Chris Cooper) OsCorp, is obsessed with Spider-Man after the hero saved his life and believes the two of them are best friends.

One evening Max is supposed to be preparing to go out and celebrate his birthday. Yet, trouble at work demands that he stay late.

Max asks his co-worker to help out but gets rejected.

Working alone, Max gets electrocuted and falls into a tank of genetically modified electric eels.

The eels attack Max and he mutates into a living-electric generator.

Some time after the breakup, Stacey decides she is ready to be friends with Parker again. The two agree to meet up as old friends. It is undeniable that they still have strong feelings for each other. But Stacey reveals she has accepted a scholarship in Oxford University, UK.

Max is caught between his emotions and his spider senses, which are telling him that trouble is afoot. Peter dons his Spider-Man outfit follows his senses to Times Square and finds the mutated Max accidentally causing a blackout.

Spider-Man tries to calm Max down but a fight is unavoidable. Spider-Man manages to stop Max, who is then taken to Ravencroft Institute '€” a facility for the criminally insane.

Unfortunately, Max Dillon isn'€™t Spider-Man'€™s only problem as he reunites with an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) '€” Norman'€™s son. Harry has not only inherited Norman'€™s wealth but also his rare illness.

Harry asks Parker to contact Spider-Man for help as the hero'€™s blood may cure his illness. Spider-Man kindly refuses Harry'€™s request as he is unsure whether a blood transfusion would be safe for Harry.

Feeling rejected, Harry begins to despise the superhero and when he manages to meet Max, who now calls himself Electro, he offers him a deal: A partnership to end the superhero'€™s life.

Spider-Man now has a new dangerous adversary in the newly-released Electro.

The action is stirred up yet again when Harry, who after finding a suit of armor and other equipment made by Norman, kidnaps Stacey.

Does Peter have what it takes to save his one true love?

As a superhero flick with entertaining humor in the Marvel mode, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 under Marc Webb'€™s direction doesn'€™t offer any surprising action scenes nor visual effects '€“ the Iron Man franchise was much more successful in this regard.

It is Garfield and Stone'€™s natural chemistry that may catapult the Amazing Spider-Man sequel to the top of the box office: The leading actors just happen to be real-life partners.

Garfield does his job flawlessly in bringing the nerdy Spidey into life '€” a kind of a grown-up Spider-Man who maintains a sense of humor even in the face of danger.

Meanwhile, Stone successfully brings Stacey'€™s character to life, capturing the brave, persistent, outspoken girl who falls in love with Parker, webs and all.
