State owned lender PT Bank Mandiri says that it has upgraded its information and technology (IT) banking system.

Mandiri president director Budi Gunadi said that customers' money and transactions were all safe.

"Every year we invest a lot to improve our IT system so that we can detect fraud attempts straight away. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to customers who had their credit cards blocked as a result," Budi said as quoted by kompas.com on Wednesday.

He hoped that every Mandiri customer would be more mindful of keeping their personal identification number (PIN) secure, including periodically changing their PIN in a bid to prevent debit cards being used by others. (nfo)
