tate-owned airport operator PTAngkasa Pura II has announced its intention to add 16 flights at HalimPerdanakusuma Airport, East Jakarta, following a 2013 regulation issued by theTransportation Ministry stating that the airport could serve regular flightroutes as of January 10 this year.

The regulation allows Halim airport to serve commercial airlines conducting domestic flights that are one hour or more in duration by operating planes with capacity levels of the Airbus A320. All regular flights at the airport are currently operated by the Citilink airline.

'€œAfter moving the Malang, Semarang, Palembang and Yogyakarta routes from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Halim, Citilink will also do the same for routes like Surabaya, Denpasar and Medan,'€ Daryanto, corporate secretary for PT Angkasa Pura II, said on Saturday.

Daryanto said shifting and adding flights was part of efforts by PT Angkasa Pura II to reduce congestion at Soekarno-Hatta airport.

Daryanto said the company, which manages 13 airports in the western part of Indonesia, including Halim, had divided the plan to add the extra flights into two stages, beginning on June 1 and July 1, respectively.

In the first term, the airport will start to serve 12 Citilink flights per day, comprising six departures and six arrivals. Four flights will serve the Halim-Yogyakarta-Halim round trip, another four will serve Halim-Surabaya-Halim, while Halim-Semarang-Halim and Halim-Palembang-Halim will have two each.

In the second term, four flights will serve two round trips of Halim-Denpasar-Halim and Halim-Medan-Halim.

'€œThere will be 32 additional flights per day, or around 46 percent of the total 74 regular flights per day served by Halim airport,'€ he said. (gda)
