eople were talking about about Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo on Twitter. He was on a TV talk show. I voted for the 53-year-old, so I turned on the TV and watched the program. I was quite surprised about how he responded to the anchor's question about his plan to form the new Cabinet based on 'professionalism' in the event he won the election.
Then I saw this look on his face, the usual calmness with a hint of emotion to express his simple style. I listened to his answers very carefully.
Basically he reaffirmed his intent to form a cabinet based on 'professionalism', but after the anchor pushed him for clarity and asked for the percentage of 'professional' people in his cabinet compared to 'political party affiliated' people ' he corrected her thinking.
'It doesn't necessarily mean that professional people are not affiliated with a political party,' Jokowi replied. 'Their professionalism has nothing to do with the party.
'What matters is how we select them, which we have to do very wisely.'
The fact Jokowi said that about 30 hours after his camp declared his win made me realize two things.
I questioned my judgment in choosing him. He is a politician, after all. I wouldn't say he misled us in his campaign, but at least he could've answered in a more elegant way. Right now, I feel cheated.
I don't know if it's only my paranoid-negative thinking, but I'm pretty sure that if he keeps showing bold moves, by that I mean adopting increasingly different positions on what people believe he promised in the campaign, he will not have many supporters left.
