The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is helping the Bali Police investigation into the murder of Sheila von Weise Mack, a US woman whose body was found in a suitcase at The St. Regis Bali Resort in Nusa Dua on Tuesday.
Your comments:
Are they also waiting for the judges to arrive from the United States? Assistance from the FBI is a welcome idea if indeed it has something to add to the case, like supporting evidence.
I am not sure why the Indonesian authorities have to grant the suspects an American lawyer who is actually not allowed to practice in Indonesian courts.
Or is the lawyer needed to provide legal cum moral advice? This case does not need American lawyers illegally entering Indonesia without the proper working permits and completely out of their jurisdiction.
Together with the FBI being present, the Indonesian police only give rise to the thought of receiving orders and pay checks from a foreign country or foreign law enforcers on their own soil.
Jurisdiction relates to all law enforcement agencies concerned, including police and prosecutors. The term jurisdiction can apply to both these agencies and even other related law enforcement agencies depending on the context in which the word is used (semantics). My wife has been handling cases involving foreigners in Indonesia on a daily basis for the last 25 years.
