Indra ban to end in December

T

he Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) has decided to reduce the doping ban imposed on Indonesian swimmer Indra Gunawan from 24 months to 18 months.

The ban on Indra was imposed from July 1, 2013 to Dec, 31, 2014 and all medals or prizes won by Indra after July 1, 2013 were annulled, said a statement sent to The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

Indra was found to have used a performance-enhancing substance called Methylhexaneamine, which is contained in supplement drink Jack3D, along with fellow swimmer Guntur Pratama Putra during last year'€™s Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Incheon, South Korea, the same city that will host the 17th Asian Games slated for Sept. 19 to Oct. 4.

Both Indra and Guntur had previously received two-year bans imposed by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) in addition to a three-month ban from the Indonesian Anti-Doping Institution (LADI), which prevented them from taking part in the 2013 Islamic Solidarity Games in Palembang.

However, CAS has yet to announce its decision on Guntur.

The ban has kept both swimmers out of the swimming team for the Asian Games, leaving Indonesia'€™s medal hopes resting on Siman Sudartawa, Triadi Fauzi Sidiq, Glenn Victor Sutanto, Dennis Josua Tiwa, Alexis Wijaya Ohmar and Ricky Anggawidjaja.
