I was reminded of a comment by former president Abdurrahman 'Gus Dur' Wahid about the legislative members acting uncontrollably like kindergarten kids again, as pictured on the front page of The Jakarta Post on Oct. 29.
They simply didn't reflect the people that they represent in the legislature. They were simply uncaring; embarrassing the nation by depicting it as totally uncultured in full view of the world. It reflects poorly on the culture and education of our people.
Let us not allow these brats to spoil the performance of the Jokowi/JK Working Cabinet. May this be part of the input in our education system, that we should be more civilized in the eyes of the world!

Our House of Representatives represents the Indonesian people. Our people consist of good and bad mannered individuals, intellectuals and uneducated persons. In short, the population comprises people of all walks of life. It is therefore no wonder that the House consists of polite as well as bad-mannered representatives. 'Honorable' is just a given title.

He needs to be sanctioned for unacceptable and disrespectful conduct in the House.

He damaged public property (the table was bought with taxpayers' money). As a lawmaker he shouldn't do that. He's like a kindergartner getting mad and breaking anything at hand. What a shame!

What penalty should be given for this uncivilized act? I think it would be fair if he/they are not only dismissed but also given prison time.

The time has come for the parties to put aside their differences and come together for the good of the people and the nation. This is not the time to oppose for the sake of opposition! That is a Western idea and principle. Here in Asia we should build our own style of democracy and work toward the good of the nation and prosperity for all!
The stakes are extremely high. Consensus must prevail if the idea is for the greater good of the nation. Corruption must be wiped out and anybody opposing any move to demonize corruption and make punishment a real deterrent must be exposed and identified for everybody to see. Good and much needed legislation should be supported by everybody, not opposed for opposition's sake!

They are not the kind of people we want in our state institution.

What an excellent example to set for the younger generation of Indonesians to admire and to aspire to! Maybe Hasrul Azwar, the lawmaker, has misunderstood the meaning of faction? Perhaps he thinks it means he has to be fractious?
