ank Indonesia (BI) says it warmly welcomes the non-cash assistance programs for low-income families that the government has provided through the issuance of three new cards, namely the Indonesian Health Card (KIS), the Indonesian Smart Card (KIP) and the Prosperous Family Saving Card (KKS).

'€œWe are grateful that BI'€™s National Non-Cash Movement [GNNT] has been responded to by the government through the distribution of several non-cash assistance programs. It is hoped that the programs will accelerate the implementation of digital financial services [LKD] in Indonesia to support the country'€™s inclusive financing,'€ BI deputy governor Ronald Waas said as quoted by Antara news agency in Jakarta on Monday.

President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo launched three new cards '€“ KIP, KIS and KKS '€“ in Jakarta on Monday, saying that the distribution of the cards was just an initial step toward providing families in all regions across Indonesia with a more prosperous life.

The launch of non-cash government-assistance programs took place simultaneously in five post offices in Jakarta, namely Pasar Baru post office, Fatmawati post office, Mampang post office, Pemuda post office, and Kebon Bawang post office, which together with Bank Mandiri as a service provider, have been appointed as distributing agents of the non-cash assistance.

The government is ready to deliver the non-cash assistance to 600 families that will receive 600 KKS, 235 KIP and 2,775 KIS. The e-money distribution is one of the government'€™s steps to promoting wider financial access for the people.

Earlier, BI together with the government piloted the distribution of the Condition Direct Cash Assistance program to Hope Family Program (PKH) card holders using e-money via LKD agents in East Java, East Nusa Tenggara, Jakarta, and West Java in October.

BI governor Agus D.W.Martowardojo declared the GNNT in Jakarta on Oct.14. The movement is aimed at increasing the awareness of the public, business players and government institutions about using non-cash payment facilities to ensure easy, safe and efficient financial transactions.

Ronald said the non-cash assistance distribution could become an entry point for millions of poor people deemed eligible to receive the social assistance in accessing the formal financial sector.

'€œAt the same time, the formal financial sector can access a new market that it has previously found quite difficult to reach,'€ he added.(ebf)(++++)
