unners from Kenya dominated the Borobudur International 10K race at Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java, on Sunday, with Kenedy Lilan taking first place in the men's division and Peninah Kihen winning the women's division.
Lilan finished in 29:35 to win the title, followed by fellow countrymen Ngaresosemi and Yulius Brotil, who finished in third at 29:47.
In the women's division, Kihen crossed the finish line in 36:12 to take first place followed by Indonesians Lazeena Rahman at 57:58 and Miki Yokohama at 63:03.
Some 16,000 runners from countries such as Kenya, Singapore, Thailand, UK, Japan, Denmark and Indonesia participated in the race, which offered prize money totaling Rp 752 million (US$61,814).
The 10K race was a loop that started and finished at the Lumbini Park in the Borobudur complex.
'The Borobudur 10K route has been approved by the IAAF [International Association of Athletics Federations]. The route will be used again for the same race within the next five years,' said Priatmaji, the secretary of the Magelang branch of the Indonesian Athletics Federation (PASI).
