G

overnor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama has instructed district and subdistrict heads as well as community unit (RW) and neighborhood unit (RT) heads to closely monitor liquor makers in their areas.

He made the order following the deaths of residents in Condet, East Jakarta, who died after consuming bootleg liquor.

Several people in Depok and Sumedang in West Java were also killed in similar cases.

'€œI cannot prevent people from drinking alcohol, whether legal alcohol or not. Therefore I ask for the help of subdistrict, district, RT and RW heads to make sure there are no bootleg liquor producers and sellers in their areas,'€ Ahok said on Saturday, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

Ahok said that bootleg liquor had become a home industry in some neighborhoods and its production remained undetected by other residents or the police.

'€œWe must keep an eye on all liquor producers. We must know exactly what they are making and where they are selling,'€ he said. (***)
