he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) grilled on Tuesday Tubagus Chaeri 'Wawan' Wardana, the younger brother of suspended Banten Governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah, to confirm all his confiscated assets allegedly bought using dirty money embezzled from his sister's office.
The questioning of Wawan, who is notorious for showering female celebrity friends with luxury cars, came after the antigraft body earlier interrogated a number of his family members and confidants to find the source of the money he used to buy the assets.
As of today, the KPK had confiscated around 85 luxury cars from various brands including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley and Roll Royce, that it suspected to have been tied to money laundering activities of the Banten businessman.
Wawan's status as the alleged financial backer of Atut's political dynasty in Banten province, which consists of eight regencies and cities, gave him immense power to control state projects from at least five cities and regencies where his family members served as the highest authority including his own wife Airin Rachmy Diani, who serves as South Tangerang Mayor.
'[Wawan] is questioned as suspect in the money laundering case,' KPK spokesman Johan Budi said on Tuesday. (***)
