ndonesian boxer Daud Yordan will return to the ring after a year-long hiatus, facing Ronald Pontillas of the Philippines at Pangsuma Sport Hall in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, on Dec. 20.

They will fight for the vacant lightweight WBO Asia Pacific title and the fight will be aired on RCTI at 10 p.m.

'€œEven though I'€™ve not fought in a year, I'€™ve maintained my regular training programs so I'€™m not worried about my physical condition,'€ Daud said in a statement.

Daud last fought against Sipho Taliwe of South Africa in Perth, Australia, on Dec. 6, 2013, reclaiming his IBO world featherweight title in a 12-round bout.

The 27-year-old Daud has recorded 33 wins, 21 of them via knock-out (KO), and only three loses out of 36 fights, while 25-year-old Pontillas has won 17 of his 26 fights, eight of them via KO and only six losses.

Daud is quite optimistic about his chances to win the fight and has targeted a KO win against his opponent.

'€œIt'€™s been a while since I'€™ve had a bout in my hometown of Pontianak. I'€™ll use this opportunity to satisfy the audience at the arena and TV viewers. I have no other option than to target a KO win,'€ he added.

Daud'€™s last bout in Pontianak was in June 27, 2009, where he won a two-round fight against Robert Allanic of the Philippines to claim the WBO Oriental featherweight title. Pontillas will be Daud'€™s sixth Filipino opponent, with Daud having emerged victorious against five of them.

'€œMost Pinoy boxers have style of a fighting, they tend to be aggressive. That [style] suits me well,'€ Daud said.

He added that he was not worrying about the fact that Pontillas was a left-handed boxer as he had defeated two left-handed boxers from the Philippines before '€” namely Christian Abila (2006/KO after round six) and Lorenzo Villanueva (2012/KO after round two).

Promoter Raja Sapta Oktohari from Mahkota Promotions said the event would be a stepping stone for Daud'€™s boxing career.

'€œIf he wins [the WBO Asia Pacific title] it will open up an opportunity for him to challenge the WBO world champion,'€ he told a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

He added that the current WBO lightweight title holder, Terence Crawford from the US, intended to step into the next boxing class, which meant the lightweight division would be vacant.

'€œDaud could be the first Indonesian boxer to be a title holder in two different organizations. He was IBO lightweight champion,'€ Raja said.

The Dec. 20 event will also feature an undercard with Agus Kustiawan versus Arief Blender in the featherweight division, a junior featherweight fight between Ferdinand Unitly and Antonius Anton, as well as a welterweight bout between Yohanes Yordan and Rony Mangga Praouw.

National fifth-seeded boxer Jun Rindam will also face sixth-seeded Romy Wesar Rahayaan in a junior featherweight bout, while Benigno Nino will fight Iwan Zoda in a junior bantamweight bout.

Stevanus Nana and Supriyadi Doyok will fight in a flyweight bout, while Aji Satrio Febriyanto will face Ripal Ronny Polangko in the cadet division of an amateur exhibition bout.
