T

he rupiah interbank trade rate in Tuesday's final trading session depreciated by 13 basis points to finish at Rp 12,454 per US dollar from Rp 12,441 per US dollar in earlier trading.

"The US greenback has shown its domination in the market as market players indicate that the US benchmark interest rate will increase immediately,' Monex Investindo head of research Ariston Tjendra said as quoted by Antara news agency.

The appreciation of the US dollar was also supported by the market players' optimism about the healthy growth in US gross domestic product (GDP) throughout the third quarter of the year.

The data will be announced shortly before the Christmas holiday begins.

'GDP data is crucial as it is a true indicator of whether a country enjoys healthy development or not. Positive GDP data will help the currency of a country strengthen,' Ariston said.

In addition, he said the world's largest economy would announce data on its manufactured durable goods before the holiday.

If the data showed that durable goods were rising in the US, meaning that there were a number of developments in its manufacturing industry, the US dollar would continue its domination in the global financial market.

Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia data revealed that the domestic currency was traded at Rp 12,456 per US dollar at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, down from the previous Rp 12,435 per US dollar. (nfo)(+++)
