ormer Burnley, Leeds and Queens Park Rangers defender Clarke Carlisle was airlifted to hospital after being hit by a truck on Monday, British media reported.
The BBC reported the 35-year-old former chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association was in hospital and that his injuries were not life-threatening. Police said a 35-year-old man had been airlifted to a hospital but did not confirm the injured man's identity.
'The collision involved a male pedestrian and a lorry,' a police spokeswoman said.
'The injured man has been airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries.'
The England sport body the Football Association wrote on Twitter 'The thoughts and prayers of all at The FA are with Clarke Carlisle and his family at this sad time.'
The anti-racism organization Kick It Out, for which Carlisle is an ambassador, wrote 'Stay strong our dear friend ' keep on fighting.'
