Around 15,000 homes in Bandung regency, West Java, were inundated following heavy rain over the past few days, while more floods and bad weather are expected throughout the archipelago in the coming week.

Bandung regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) chief Marlan said residents in seven districts who previously insisted on staying in their flooded homes were being evacuated.

Your comments:

The disaster can't be ignored by anyone, hope our brothers there are patient with everything that happened to them. Don't just pray; they also need food, clean water, clothing, etc. Hope the Indonesian government can help them as quickly as possible. And please any citizens around, help them at any cost.

Sonny

The flood should have been anticipated by the residents so that they could have saved their properties.

It is difficult to resolve flooding on Java. Java is overcrowded. It hosts more than 50 percent of the Indonesian population. Scientists predict that Java will soon be an island of cities.

Even if villagers do not cut the trees, others will cut them as big companies need much land to expand their businesses: factories, supermarkets, housing, banks, trade, etc.

Floods and landslides occur every rainy season. The worst ones happen in overcrowded areas. One thing we have to realize is we cannot only blame nature over this disaster. People contribute the worsening conditions, particularly when they don't care about the environment.

Floods will always come as there is no solution so far. This will become a more serious problem if it is not handled properly by the government and society.

Although the surrounding environment is indeed important, we have come to a point where the vast ice sheets at the poles are melting.  Since the changing climate is largely irreversible and accelerating, it is the duty and responsible of governments and societies to move people out of harm's way.  The individuals that have been affected by all these floods have contributed very little to the cause of this problem.  And yet they bear the majority of its cost.
