T

he child sexual abuse trial involving two teaching staff at the Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) continued on Tuesday at the South Jakarta District Court, where the second victim and his mother, DR, took the witness stand.

JIS teachers Neil Bantleman and Ferdinant Tjiong were charged under Article 82 of the Child Protection Law on child sexual abuse allegations.

The court had scheduled the testimonies from the second victim and DR to be heard via teleconferencing, but the teleconference was canceled because of technical problems and, instead, both witnesses came personally to the court.

As of 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the hearing was still in session.

'€œThe boy and his mother came to the court because the teleconference equipment failed to deliver a clear sound for the trial,'€ Mahareksha Singh Dillon, one of the lawyers of both Bantleman and Ferdinant, told The Jakarta Post.

Mahareksha said that in the closed-door trial the panel of the judges told the mother that she should stay outside the courtroom and could not accompany her son during the questioning.

'€œThe boy, in a Stormtrooper mask, told the judge that he was happy to be able to play in JIS,'€ Mahareksha said.
