tate-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II has apologized after two of its security officers allegedly raped a Chinese tourist at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport earlier this week.
The two airport security officers have been named suspect by the Jakarta Police, which oversees the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Police.
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport spokesperson Yudis Tiawan said that they initially received reports that the two security guards allegedly raped a 26-year old tourist from China at a hotel near the airport.
'We sympathize with the victim, and will obey and go through the process of law and order. We are ready to cooperate fully with the police to help this case,' Yudis told The Jakarta Post on Friday.
He added the airport operator would follow up the case in accordance with the company's internal regulations before slapping any suitable punishment.
"The harshest punishment for the two security guards is being dishonorably discharged from their jobs," Yudis said.
He added that both security guards, a supervisor and an enforcer at the Aviation Security department, faced Article 285 of the Criminal Code, which carry more than 12 years of imprisonment.
The victim was found crying at the airport's Terminal 1 on Tuesday and told policemen who approached her that she was the victim of a rape, elaborating that she was initially drugged and brought to a hotel near the airport where she was kept for two days and was raped by both security guards.
She explained that her initial encounter with the perpetrators came after she landed at the airport's Terminal 2 and approached them unwarily about a place where she can get some sleep.
Because the victim did not speak English or Indonesian, she conveyed her request through body language. The Airport Police's chief detective Adj. Comr. Azhari Kurniawan said that the perpetrators allegedly took advantage of the situation and drugged the victim before taking her to a nearby hotel.
The victim has since been returned to her home country on Wednesday. (dyl/nvn)(+++)
