'Some tsunami victims are still living in temporary shelters': Acehnese lawmaker

H

ouse of Representatives member Nasir Djamil has expressed his disbelief over the fact that there are still people in Aceh who were affected by the tsunami in 2004 living in temporary shelters.

Nasir, a politician from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), received the information during a dialogue session with tsunami victims in Bakhoy, Ingin Jaya district, Aceh Besar regency.

'€œWhy are there still some [still living in temporary shelters]? I am saddened and appalled by this condition,'€ Nasir said Friday in a statement reported by Antara news agency.

"This is the moral responsibility of Kuntoro Mangkusubroto because he was in charge as the then chairman of the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency for Aceh and Nias [BRR]."

Nasir, who represents the Aceh I electoral district, which includes Aceh Besar regency, will forward the issue to the House and make it his priority. He hopes that the government will soon pay attention to this issue.

'€œThese people were victims of the tsunami 10 years ago, so it should already be a priority of the government to provide them with adequate housing,'€ said the member of House'€™s Commission III overseeing legal, human rights and security issues. (dyl)(+++)
