T

he Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team from National Police headquarters is being deployed to Surabaya to identify the bodies believed to be passengers and crew from AirAsia flight QZ8501, a top SAR officer said Tuesday.

National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) chief Air Marshal FH Bambang Soelistyo said during a press conference at Basarnas headquarters the team was being sent to Surabaya because all the passengers had departed from there, reported tribunnews.com.

Meanwhile, National Police chief Gen. Sutarman said the police had collected antemortem data from the passengers' families.

'The DVI team has started to work. We have requested antemortem data from the families,' he said at National Police headquarters, as reported by tribunnews.com.

Antemortem data can be fingerprints or DNA, which could be taken from nail and hair clippings.

'It is the DVI's task to identify the victims, even if the bodies are damaged,' Sutarman said.

The Airbus A320-200 was declared missing on Sunday morning at about 7:55 a.m. Air Force aircraft identified debris and bodies on Tuesday afternoon. (nvn)(+++)
