n additional 12 bodies from AirAsia flight QZ8501 have been retrieved by US vessel USS Sampson, taking the total of bodies recovered to 22 as of Friday evening.
'US navy UH60 Black Hawk helicopters delivered eight bodies this afternoon and four more are still on the Sampson,' said National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) operational director First Marshal SB Supriyadi at the Basarnas operations center in Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan, on Friday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Central Kalimantan Police chief Brig. Gen. Bambang Hermanu said that six of the 12 bodies had been transferred to Pangkalan Bun's Sultan Imanuddin Hospital. The bodies were of three males, including one child, and three women.
Ten bodies have been flown back to Surabaya after undergoing initial identification examination at the Imanuddin hospital and will be transferred to Surabaya's Bhayangkara Hospital.
Including the aforementioned 10 bodies, 18 bodies have now reached Surabaya.
Search and rescue efforts to locate the aircraft wreckage and the black box are ongoing in the Java Sea. (dyl/nfo)(++++)
