akarta Police have arrested a homemaker identified as NUJ, for allegedly pawning three Toyota Alphard Vellfire vans she rented from car rentals.
The Swift Investigation unit head at the Jakarta Police, Adj. Sr. Comr. Didik Sugiarto, said on Sunday that the woman, 42, rented expensive cars from several companies, saying that she needed the cars for business-related purposes.
'The victims are the companies who rented the cars to her in Bintaro Jaya, Pondok Aren in South Tangerang in October last year,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Didik said she failed to return the cars when the rental periods expired. He said she was arrested at her house.
'She rented the cars for Rp 30 million [US$2,400] a month. At the beginning, the arrangements went well. After a few months passed, the suspect promised to pay to extend the rental periods but failed to do so,coming up with various reasons,' he said. 'She used fake documents to pawn the cars,' Didik said. (***)
