he Surakarta administration in Central Java plans to commence construction in February of a temporary business compound for traders of the iconic Klewer Market, which was destroyed in a fire late last month.
Surakarta Mayor FX Hadi Rudyatmo said his administration had calculated that the temporary market would cost at least Rp 28.84 billion (around US$2.3 million), with each temporary kiosk costing Rp 1 million per square-meter.
The mayor, who is popularly known as Rudy, said the administration was considering three locations for the temporary market: The Sultan's palace Southern Square, the Northern Square or the Vastenburg Fort.
'We have submitted a proposal [to each of the sites' management]. Whoever responds positively first, we'll use their place,' Rudy said over the weekend. (***)
