lag carrier Garuda Indonesia will combine its Makassar-Jeddah route via Medan into one flight number, as ordered by the Transportation Ministry.
Previously, the airline divided the route into two sectors using different flight numbers, which was a violation of the carrier's route license, according to Garuda Indonesia corporate communications vice president Pujubroto.
'Based on the Transportation Ministry's notification, four Garuda flights have violated the terms of their route licenses,' he said on Saturday as quoted by Antara news agency.
The four flights referred to by Pujobroto are Makassar-Medan under flight GA626 and Medan-Jeddah under flight GA986. The returning flights are Jeddah-Medan under flight GA987 and Medan-Makassar as flight GA627.
Garuda had decided to combine the routes into a Makassar-Medan-Jeddah route under flight GA986, with the return flight being GA987, and operate it as of Jan. 1.
But Pujobroto said the ministry had found that the carrier was still operating the old, segmented flight numbers as of Friday.
He said the carrier would swiftly take action to correct its actions.(dyl/nvn)
