he vocalist of Jakarta-based pop band d'Masiv has no reason to stay quiet when it comes to children's welfare.
Rian Ekky Pradipta, father to a one-year-old girl, recently volunteered to help the National Commission on Children Rights Protection in its campaign against child abuse.
'The band and I often visit areas prone to child abuse, but we kept our activities under the radar,' Rian said. 'Then we realized we have to make it public in a hope that it would inspire more people to do the same.'
Rian said that members of d'Masiv, which recently released a studio album titled Hidup Lebih Indah (A Better Life) on vinyl, would embark on promotional tour and use their time on stage to educate the audience on children's rights.
'I will talk to the audience about the issue and ask them never to harm a child verbally or physically,' he says.
Rian prefers to keep things simple when it comes to state-of-art technology while on tour. The collector of vintage vinyl albums only keeps what's essential for him while away from home.
'I don't change my phone just because new models are out. I'm not a gadget geek so I don't really use much of them, either,' he says.
MacBook
The reason I have my gadgets from the same brand is that they are compatible and that I'm already used to the operating system. I have old version of a MacBook that I often leave at home. I use it when I need to go to YouTube or do my web research on recordings artists - or certain vinyl albums.
iPhone 4S
I use a smartphone so I can connect to the Internet all the time. I need to check my email from time to time. Other than that, I only use the phone to make calls and send text messages. I don't have game applications on the phone. I'm not a gamer.
iPod classic
Mine is an iPod Classic with 160 Gigabyte data storage capacity. It can hold 20,000 songs within that capacity ' and I have already stored 17,000 on it. When traveling, or while on a flight, I have a set list of a few hundred songs ' a must-listen to.
On that list, I have artists from the 1960s and 1970s such as the Walker Brothers [and] Indonesian artists including Chrisye, Guruh Gypsy and Titiek Puspa.
For an up-tempo break, I listen to Zedd or Armin van Buuren and I'm also currently listening to A Great Big World and Coldplay's latest album Ghost Stories. Whenever I buy new records, I have them uploaded to my portable media player.
