Around 300 Indonesian students explored opportunities to pursue higher education in Dutch academic institutions during the Holland Scholarship Day held by Nuffic Neso Indonesia at the Netherlands Embassy in Jakarta on Saturday.
In the event, Nuffic Nesso Indonesia director Mervin Bakker explained the education system in the Netherlands and registration procedures students may need to fulfill to apply for a Dutch university.
The coordinator of StuNed scholarships, Indy Hardono, said StuNed was a full scholarship plan provided by the Dutch government for master's degrees, short courses, and tailor-made training programs.
'The total amount of funds disbursed for StuNed scholarships in a five-year period has reached '¬30 million, and this year, StuNed scholarships will be offered to around 250-300 Indonesian students,' said Indy in a release made available to The Jakarta Post on Monday.
She said StuNed scholarships had started in 2000 and as of this year, around 4,000 Indonesians had been granted the scholarships to study in the Netherlands.
Other scholarship plans presented in the event include the Orange Tulip Scholarship (OTS) offered for foundation, bachelor's and master's programs.
NESO student counselor Inty Dienasari said one of the requirements to apply for scholarship programs to the Netherlands was a letter of acceptance from a Dutch university.
'Therefore, in this event, a number of representatives from several Dutch universities are present to give details about programs in their respective universities,' she said.
A seminar entitled 'How to Write a Motivation Statement' was presented as a closing event. Marlindah, an alumnus of Utrecht University, shared her tips and tricks to seize the opportunity to study in the Netherlands.
'A simple motivation letter is not enough. Don't ever think about copying someone else's motivation letter. Please write your own statements based on facts and your own experiences,' she said.
The registration of StuNed scholarships for master's programs will be closed on March 15.
