ransportation Minister Ignasius Jonan flew to Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan, on Tuesday, ignoring an invitation from House of Representatives' Commission V overseeing transportation to a hearing regarding the recent AirAsia incident.
'The ministry's secretary general [Santoso Eddy Wibowo] will represent him at the hearing,' ministry special advisor Hadi M. Djuraid said in Jakarta on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
Commission V head Fary Diemy Francis, however, said he was baffled by Jonan's absence, because the invitation to attend the hearing was sent on Wednesday last week.
'The search and rescue operations have been going on for 16 days in Pangkalan Bun and we need to get the first seven-day operation report directly from the minister,' Fary complained.
Despite Jonan's absence, National Search and Rescue Agency (SAR) chief Air Marshal FH Bambang Soelistyo and officials from the National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) delivered their reports to the commission. (nfo)(+++)
