President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo is concerned about the slow processing of compensation payments to the next of kin of passengers on board crashed AirAsia flight QZ8501, according to Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan.
Your comments:
This is really sad. Why this constant obsession with money?
Many victims of the AirAsia flight still haven't been found, yet we're harping on about money rather than respect for those victims. Really sad! Moreover- has that regulation always been implemented in Indonesia, or only when a foreign-based airline is involved?

It's the same old story: clamoring for foreign investment then trying to kick them out once we've got their money. I bet that if this was a Garuda flight, or any other Indonesian carrier, the story would be very different. What about compensation for the Lapindo mudflow incident?
We'll see what game Jokowi decides to play over the next few months. Jonan must act in a responsible manner.

This whole thing seems to suggest that Indonesia is using every trick in the book to kick AirAsia out of Indonesia. It is disappointing that the President has jumped on the bandwagon even before anyone knows what actually happened to the plane, other than that it fell from the sky.

Does this include the crew? Does anyone know about AirAsia's policy for cabin crew and pilots in this situation?

It is very good that the families will receive compensation so quickly after the tragic accident, and I hope they all put it to good use for the future. On a similar subject, what about the victims who lost everything apart from their lives in the Lapindo mudflow disaster? How many years has that been dragging on?

This is crazy. Have all death certificates been issued? As far as I know, even the best life insurance companies take a month to verify all documentation before paying out. AirAsia already has an agreement in place. It looks like the President is helping his transportation minister and the mayor of Surabaya, who is an Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician, to put pressure on AirAsia -- for whatever reason.
