he Jambi Police special crimes unit arrested four persons in Jambi believed to have transferred the contents of 3-kilogram (kg) LPG gas canisters into 12-kg canisters. The four suspects are currently being held at Jambi Police headquarters for further examination.
Police also seized 116 12-kg gas canisters and 198 3-kg canisters and the tools needed to transfer contents between the two.
Jambi Police chief Brig. Gen. Bambang Sudarisman said the case came to light via reports from area residents in Jambi. The unsubsidized 12-kg canisters are sold at a higher price than the subsidized 3-kg canisters. By transferring the contents of 3-kg canisters into 12-kg ones, fraudsters can book a Rp 40,000 profit per canister.
Investigators arrested the four suspects Sunday while they were reportedly in the act of transferring gas between canisters at a shop in Tangkit area, Muarojambi regency, Jambi. (***)
