The rupiah interbank trade rate in Jakarta strengthened 19 basis points to finish at Rp 12,466 per US dollar on Friday.
Woori Korindo Securities Indonesia research head Reza Priyambada said the European Central Bank's move to buy a total of '¬60 billion a month in assets-- including government bonds, debt securities issued by European institutions and private-sector bonds-- which will run through to September 2016, helped strengthen the domestic currency.
Reza added that the appreciation was also supported by the confidence of market players on healthy data in Chinese manufacturing activities that will be published shortly.
'The government can now be optimistic that Indonesia will achieve 5.8 percent economic growth this year,' he said as quoted by Antara news agency.
Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia data showed that the rupiah appreciated to Rp 12,444 per US dollar in Friday's closing session from Rp 12,451 per US dollar in earlier trading. (nfo)(++++)
