Semen Indonesia appoints operational director as new CEO

S

tate-owned cement maker PT Semen Indonesia officially appointed Suparni as its CEO on Friday after securing 69.6 percent of votes from 76.1 percent of the firm'€™s total shareholders, replacing Dwi Soetjipto, who has taken over at the helm of state-owned oil and gas giant PT Pertamina.

In addition to installing Suparni, shareholders also agreed to add telecommunications veteran Rizkan Chandra to its board of directors and retain five others.

Suparni, who was previously Semen Indonesia's production director, said he would continue expanding his firm'€™s business overseas while keeping growth in the domestic market first priority.

'€œWhat we see now, ASEAN and South Asian countries have good demand potential for cement. ['€¦] we are still looking at Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia,'€ he told reporters.

The firm'€™s expansion plan in Myanmar remained unclear as it had not yet reached an agreement with potential investors in that country, according to Semen Indonesia finance director Ahyanizzaman.

Semen Indonesia currently has a joint venture in Vietnam called Thang Long Cement Vietnam.

Suparni, who joined Semen Indonesia in 1986, said that he would maintain the firm'€™s positive performance during his term, which will last until 2017.

The firm aims to outperform growth in the industry this year, expecting a more than 7 percent growth in revenue.(koi/nvn)(++++)
