E. Jakarta to have integrated garbage dumps

The East Jakarta Sanitation Agency plans to build integrated garbage disposal facilities (TPS) in five districts.

Office head Marnaek Siahaan said on Friday that the five districts were Kramatjati, Makasar, Matraman, Cipayung and Ciracas.

'€œThe integrated facilities will use the system of reduce, reuse and recycle. We hope that we can reduce the amount of garbage,'€ he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

Marnaek revealed that one of the facilities would be built on a 5,793 square meter plot of land on Jl. SMP 126 in Batu Ampar subdistrict in Kramatjati.

The official added that the presence of the new dumps would reduce 30 percent of the total garbage in the municipality, which is usually directly transported to the Bantargebang landfill in Bekasi. '€œWe will recycle the plastic, paper and metal wastes into useable items,'€ he said.

East Jakarta produces 1,100 to 1,200 tons of garbage every day, while Jakarta produces at least 6,500 tons a day.
