he North Sumatra Police Special Crimes and Intelligence Directorate arrested a woman on Friday who was believed to be an illegal Indonesian migrant worker (TKI) placement agent to Malaysia.
The suspect, Nursiyah, alias Upik, 54, of Martubung in Deli Serdang regency, was arrested in Kampong Keling in Tebing Tinggi city.
Special Crimes and Intelligence Directorate Particular Crimes Unit chief Comr. Robin Simatupang said the illegal TKI placement committed by the suspect was disclosed after an illegal TKI escaped from her workplace in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Robin added that the TKI, with initials MA, then reported to the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia that she was a victim of an illegal TKI placement ring.
Based on the report by the 16-year-old maid, added Robin, an embassy staffer called Jakarta and forwarded the complaint to the North Sumatra Police for investigation. Robin said that based on the information, police went to the victim's house.
