n an unexpected development, the South Jakarta Police revealed on Tuesday that 23-year-old Christopher Daniel Sjarief, a driver involved in a car crash that killed four people, had not been proven to have consumed lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) prior to the incident, as the police had earlier stated.

South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Wahyu Hadiningrat said laboratory test results released by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) had found no traces of LSD in Christopher'€™s blood and urine samples.

'€œChristopher'€™s urine and blood test results released by BNN and our forensic laboratory show that he tested negative for the drug,'€ he told reporters at South Jakarta Police headquarters on Tuesday.

Christopher lost control of his SUV on Jl. Sultan Iskandar Muda in South Jakarta and crashed into six motorcyclists and two cars on the congested street last week. The tail up killed four people. Two victims were injured in the incident while two others remain in critical condition.

In a statement issued shortly after the incident, Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said Christopher had '€œtested positive'€ for consuming LSD.

During Tuesday'€™s press conference, Wahyu said Martinus'€™ statement was made merely based on the suspect'€™s confession.

'€œOur findings are based on the evidence, not a confession,'€ said Wahyu.

He said the police'€™s test results also showed that Christopher'€™s friend, Muhammad Ali Husni Riza, had also tested negative for drugs.

'€œMeanwhile, psychological test results show that Christopher was mentally stable but only lacked self-control,'€ he further said.

Before the accident, Ali and Christopher were at a coffee shop at Pacific Place shopping mall in South Jakarta. On their way home, Ali decided to leave his car and asked his driver, Ahmad Sandi, to bring Christopher back home. Not long afterward, Christopher asked the driver to let him drive, forcing him to get out of the car at an underpass. (ebf)(++++)
