he Attorney General's Office (AGO) has said 11 convicts whose appeals for clemency have been rejected by President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo will be executed soon.
"The date has not been set," AGO spokesman Tony Tribagus Spontana said on Wednesday as quoted by Antara news agency.
The 11 convicts include eight found guilty of drug-related crimes and three in murder cases.
Among the drug convicts were Australians Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, members the Bali Nine drug trafficking group, Tony said.
Meanwhile, National Narcotics Agency (BNN) head Comr. Gen. Anang Iskandar said BNN fully supported the executions as a means to create a deterrent effect.
The AGO recently executed six drug convicts, including five foreigners, after their requests for clemency were rejected by the President.
The President has taken a firm stance against drug convicts over concerns of drug problems in the country, saying that Indonesia was in a state of emergency with regard to drugs, as some 50 drug addicts died daily, or 18,000 annually in the country.
Indonesia has 4.5 million drug addicts who need rehabilitation. Some 1.2 million drug addicts are in such dire conditions that rehabilitation is no longer an option for them.
"There are 64 [drug convict] inmates who are on death row. They have sought clemency, but we have rejected them all despite pressure from all corners," he said last month. (hhr)
