he Central Statistics Agency (BPS) head, Suryamin, says that the country's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by only 5.02 percent throughout the 2014 fiscal year, the lowest GDP growth the country has recorded in the past five years.
'GDP growth has been on a downward trend since 2010. From that year until 2013, GDP declined from 6.38 percent to 5.58 percent,' Suryamin told the press in Jakarta on Thursday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Based on area, Sulawesi recorded the highest GDP growth last year with a rise of 6.88 percent, followed by Bali and Nusa Tenggara, which rose by 5.86 percent, and Java, which saw a 5.59 percent increase.
Sumatera was in fourth place with 4.66 percent growth, followed by Maluku and Papua, which increased by 4.32 percent, and Kalimantan in the last place with a 3.19 percent rise, the data revealed.
'The highest growth was recorded in West Sulawesi, with 8.73 percent, followed by Jambi and South Sulawesi at 7.93 percent and 7.57 percent growth respectively,' he said.
The provinces with GDP growth below the national level included South Kalimantan, South Sumatera, Bangka Belitung, Papua, Riau, East Kalimantan and Aceh. (nfo)(+++)
