he Health Ministry is planning to provide early detection facilities for cervical and breast cancers in every community health center (Puskesmas) by 2019.
'We keep increasing [the number of health centers capable of early cancer detection]. We do this by training officers in regencies and cities,' Health Ministry disease control and environmental health director general HM Subuh said as quoted by kompas.com on Monday.
The ministry will train officers in 998 Puskesmas using money from the Rp 86 billion budget from the ministry to be used for regional purposes.
Currently, only 10 percent of 9,671 health centers in the country can provide the service.
While all 34 provinces have had Puskesmas that are ready to carry out early detection, they are only in 229 of 500 regencies and cities.
As of 2014, the country only had 430 trainers and 2,202 doctors or nurses capable of conducting the early detection. (***)
