he rupiah interbank trade rate in Jakarta in Wednesday's opening session appreciated by 64 basis points to Rp 12,606 per US dollar from the previous Rp 12,670 per US dollar.
Woori Korindo Securities Indonesia head of research Reza Priyambada said the possibility for Greece to renegotiate its debts to Eurozone member countries had created positive sentiment in the global financial market.
In addition, Reza said that the People's Bank of China (PBoC) was not expected to tighten its monetary policy, creating optimism that Indonesian exports might rebound.
'These external factors positively affected the trade of the rupiah,' he said.
He said the country's economic fundamentals remained strong, which helped strengthen the domestic currency against the US dollar during the first trading session.
Economists previously predicted that Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP) would grow by between 5.3 and 5.5 percent, much better than 5.02 percent achieved in 2014. (nfo)(++++)
