P

resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said on Thursday that he had ordered law enforcers to arrest those involved in alleged intimidation against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), should intimidation occur.

"I have met all the leaders of the KPK and the National Police," Jokowi said on the sidelines of an event in Jakarta. "If there is indeed [someone] who launches such terror, just arrest [the person]."

The KPK has just confirmed that some of the antigraft body'€™s investigators '€” who are handling the graft case of Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan, whose nomination as the next police chief was marred with controversy '€” and its legal team members had received threats, including against their lives.

Jimly Asshidiqie, a member of an independent team assigned by Jokowi to solve the current standoff between the KPK and the National Police, has also confirmed the threats received by the KPK and said that the team would consult with Jokowi about them.

According to Jimly, Jokowi has instructed the KPK and the police to temporarily freeze their investigations on both Budi and the commission'€™s deputy chairman Bambang Widjojanto until the South Jakarta District Court announces its decision on Budi'€™s pretrial petition. (nfo)(++++)
