o help improve the quality and quantity of catches in its southern waters, the Yogyakarta administration in cooperation with the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (LAPAN) will build an integrated maritime information system.
Yogyakarta Governor Hamengkubuwono and LAPAN director Thomas Jamaluddin signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the cooperation on Thursday.
The administration plans to start the development of a 16-hectare seaport in Kulonprogo regency this year designed to be able to accommodate 100 ships.
'We will fund this on our own, using the provincial budget of some Rp 34 billion [US$2.7 million], to maximize sea potentials,' Hamengkubuwono said after the MoU signing. (***)
