T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is considering appealing to the Supreme Court after the South Jakarta District Court decided the KPK'€™s move to name police chief candidate Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan a suspect in a graft case was invalid.

'€œThe KPK'€™s report on the pretrial hearing decision to the Supreme Court will be a consideration in appealing,'€ Chatarina Mulia Girsan, who represented the KPK in the pretrial hearing, said on Monday.

Chatarina acknowledged that her side had prepared for win or lose scenarios and would consult with the KPK leadership on what step the commission would take next.

'€œWe will speak [to the media] after conveying the pretrial decision to the KPK'€™s leaders,'€ she said, as quoted by kompas.com.

During the pretrial hearing at the district court on Monday, judge Sapin Rizaldi accepted Budi'€™s request to declare the KPK'€™s move to name him a graft suspect as invalid.

Previously, the former head of the Supreme Court, Harifin Tumpa, said the pretrial hearing had no authority to annul the KPK'€™s move to name Budi a suspect in connection with the allegation that he accepted a bribe when he was chief of the National Police'€™s Career Development Bureau from 2004 to 2006.
