Over 100 police officers arrested 98 people for various violations during a series of joint midnight raids in North Jakarta on Saturday.
North Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Muhammad Iqbal said on Sunday that the raids were carried out in 15 locations in North Jakarta and were conducted between 9:30 and 12 p.m.
'The 122 police officers caught 98 people last night,' Muhammad said as quoted by kompas.com, adding that the police officers were a joint team of the North Jakarta Police and Jakarta Police.
According to Muhammad, during the raid, 42 people were held for failure to show their identity cards.
The police also detained 19 people for various forms of gambling, 11 for consuming alcohol, eight for illegal parking, eight for pick-pocketing, four for consuming drugs, three for blackmail, two for robbery and one for motorcycle theft.
He said that only 18 of them would be charged, while the others would be released after questioning. (***)
