A

member of the Pematang Siantar Police narcotics unit in North Sumatra was reportedly assaulted by three people believed to be Indonesian Military (TNI) officers when he was arresting a drug dealer on Jl. Tanah Jawa, Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra, on Monday.

The police officer, First Brig. Hendi Pratama, suffered gashes to his temple and neck and bruising on the face.

North Sumatra Police chief spokesman Sr. Comr. Helfi Assegaf said the attack ensued when Hendi was about to arrest a man during a drug deal on Jl. Tanah Jawa, Pematang Siantar. Hendi, added Helfi, was disguised as a buyer.

'€œThe disguise worked, and Hendi managed to arrest the drug dealer, but soon three tough men arrived at the scene, one of them wearing a TNI uniform. They told Hendi to release the drug dealer, and attacked him after he refused,'€ Helfi told The Jakarta Post on Monday.

When reached for confirmation, Bukit Barisan Military Command chief spokesman Let. Col. Enoh Solehuddin said his command would investigate the matter. '€œWe will check in the field,'€ said Enoh.
