enpasar District Court sentenced a New Zealand national, Richard James Wackrow, to five months in jail on Tuesday for assaulting his girlfriend.

Lead judge AA Ketut Anom Wirakanta said Wackrow, 40, slapped Lisa Christina and hit her with a helmet after they fell from a motorbike in Jimbaran, Bali, on Sept. 4.

Antara news agency reported that Wackrow became irate with Christina and assaulted her for failing to maintain the balance. The assault broke her nose and injured her cheek and eyes.

The defendant and the prosecutor, who had previously sought a seven-month jail term, accepted the verdict.(+++)
