ndonesian Military (TNI) Commander Gen. Moeldoko says the military will not act to end the escalating conflict between the police and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as the conflict was still at an acceptable level.
'We are a democratic country so any conflicts like this are still acceptable. Movements in the law and political contexts are still within boundaries,' he said at TNI headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Wednesday.
According to him, no side can prevent such a conflict from rising to the surface but all sides should support the settlement of the conflict in accordance with existing mechanisms.
He said the conflict should not be allowed to deteriorate to such an extent that it could undermine national stability or affect the economy.
'I respect [the two conflicting sides] but we have to warn them against directing the ongoing rift into a conflict because nobody wants that. We do not want the rift to trigger instability or affect the economy. So I call on all sides to remain within boundaries and don't go beyond that,' he said as quoted by Antara news agency.(rms)
